I was complaining about The Last Airbender trailer on my facebook, and my mom (who I have introduced to Avatar, though we have not finished the series just yet) saw and was talking to me about it earlier.

Her question: "So who did they get to play Aang?"

Me: "Some unknown kid."

Her: "Some Chinese kid?"

Me: "No, a white kid."

Her: "Wow, they really messed that up."

It made me smile a lot.

SO BASICALLY, MY LIFE :

Has returned to school. There are parts of it that I like and parts that I don't like. I am loving my astronomy class, and I think that there is a very good possibility that I will love sociology very much. English is rather mediocre, and Japanese I am still getting used to. We got screwed over for a classroom for Japanese, but are trying to fix, so hopefully all will be well with the world!

Have signed on to cosplay Japan from Axis Powers Hetalia for a Valentines photoshoot. Err, genderbent Japan, that is. (Lol.)
My first thoughts:

-omg, I hope I don't mess up o //////o
-this is apparently the costume I have been preparing for for years? (No, seriously, everything is coming out of my closet. The only thing that isn't is the wig which I... may or may not be wearing.)

Just started up school again, and I am liking my classes so far. Astronomy looks like it's going to be a lot more interesting and comprehensive than last semester, I like my English teacher, and I like my Sociology teacher. Have not been to Japanese yet, though... should be good to see everyone again, but I don't know if they're switching around my teacher or not. (My school's system is so confusing it is not even funny.)

I am also waiting on a call from a job I applied for. I am so tired of applying for jobs, I just want to be hired somewhere already! (And not someplace crappy to work, I'd like it to be a good work environment, plzkthx.)

Hello all! Happy New Year, which apparently passed without my mentioning it at all. Uhh, sorry?

I am returned from Texas, and while I did not write very much fic (hahahaha, I am so fail) I did do various other fannish things, let me tell you about them:

-I finished the third and fourth seasons of Supernatural. Now to start on the fifth and, apparently, final season. I will finally be caught up!

-I finally did something with those Detective Conan stickers. That being, put them on that Detective Conan notebook. Where I have a couple of notes pertaining to Conan fic. (Umm, yes, I am a nerdface.)

-Finish planning out my cosplay for NDK 2010. (And also possibly any Diane Duane appearance in the western states.)

And as for RL:

-Had Christmas with my grandmother, received a calendar with Japanese woodblock prints from her, it is very pretty but I have no idea what to do with it. Went to South Padre Island and was knocked over by the surf and soaked and freezing, but saw dolphins. Fun times.

-Shot off Japanese fireworks with a friend for New Years. They were rather lame, but fun anyways. We then drank sparkling cider and hung around for a few more hours.

-Had my first glass of champagne. It's rather tasty.

-Freaked out over when my classes start. I still have a lot of time left on break.

-Am still looking for a job. This... should be fun.

This may be my last post before New Years, as I am heading to Texas for ten days and have no idea if I will have internet access. (I am actually hanging in the airport with WiFi right now, haha, such a nerdface.)

If I have no internet access, expect me to come back with lots of fic, as I cannot go ten days without being fannish in some way. /pathetic

I never actually planned to see the movie. I had heard little to no buzz about it, had only seen one early-on trailer (with no dialogue, just music and pretty visuals), and kind of went on my merry way being pretty much uninterested and therefore passing over most anything dealing with the subject.

Except my mom decided that she really wanted to see the movie, because, idk, pretty cgi scifi or something like that. (Which is actually pretty relevant to my interests so I was kind of expectant of something good).

AND THEN

It was pretty. And the soundtrack was good.

... And maybe the intent was good too.

Except that it all ended up being about Mr. Heroic White Guy Savior, Who Is Ignorant At First But Learns The Ways Of The Natives And Becomes Their Great Leader. The hero is kind of a gigantic dickweed who I never liked. He got the girlfriend because... idk, he was the spiritually chosen white dude hero, when for most of the movie she was like "dumbass" and he was like "lolexoticgirl", and then romance seemed to come out of nowhere between them (except it was not nowhere, because there are fictional tropes that say that it is not nowhere, uughh.) Hero Dude never really earned his Great Leader status, he just... jumped onto the back of a big red flying lizard? He never had to deal with being, y'know, outcast or Othered or anything because he's got white privilege and who wants to worry about that, amirite? Not to mention the fact that he was chosen by ~*Destiny*~ or somesuchshit, with all of the baggage that comes with that.

So basically, it was pretty. Very pretty. With a good soundtrack.

And I liked the designs for the aliens, although of course the aliens that are most human-like in features are the most human-like in culture. Which, lol, "most impressively animated CG aliens ever". Basically just Native Americans, only BLUE!

I am gonna go back to Diane Duane now, with her Lady Protags Saving The Universe Alongside Alien Buddies (Who Are Equally As Awesome), and her Cats Whose Lives Include But Don't Revolve Around Humans (No, Really). Where the aliens are centipede-like with father issues, or walking trees with emotive-berries for sensory input, or silicon-based turtles whose Species Issue is deciding whether to freeze the universe or not.

And I am going to wait like mad for that movie to come out! Ta!

What have I been doing for the past while:

-Finished finals. Took the jlpt, but I still don't know how well I did. (Crossing my fingers like mad.)

- Watching Supernatural. I am only just starting in on the second season. I liiike it. Second season is a lot darker and edgier than the first season, which, umm, not sure if that's a good thing or not yet. (Probably good, even though I was for serious a fan of Sam and Dean buddying it up and hunting demon things in monster-of-the-week fashion. I will get over it, because, umm, apocalypse plot = pretty freaking awesome.)

- Joined the roleplay On Dawn's Highway as Ran. And we kicked off our plot with poisoning and epicness. Our only canons are Ran, Gin and Vermouth. (So uhh, if you're into thread roleplaying, coome check it out?)

- Writing that House-Conan crossover I promised myself I would write someday. Mostly it is Haibara snarking about her boss. Probably it will be a much longer story than I anticipated.

-Wrote fic for the 25 Days of Christmas at the SasuSaku comm. Had fun with that. It was based off a Christmas song so... go me?

- I want to go ice skating soon-ish. I want to go to that one outdoor skating rink.

- Planning to see The Princess and The Frog movie asap, especially after hearing things about how Tiana is full of awesome ladydom and things.

- Probably gonna go shopping for Christmas gifts later this week. I still have no idea what to get for anybody. Probably will end up getting gift cards for people because I am lazy and uncreative about gifts.

Just went to see Zombieland (yes I know it came out like forever ago, but I was busy so nyeh) and it was fun and hilarious and all characters were pretty equally kickass and Wichita and Little Rock were my favorites forever.

It gets a pass from me, at least. Fun times all around. Go see it if you haven't.

But then the theater was filled with Twifans going to see New Moon and it was kind of scary??!!

I also saw a New Moon trailer, and you guys, IT LOOKS RIDICULOUSLY BAD, but in the very best way possible! (Vampire royalty peeps are gonna be so hot, I just know it, and Dakota Fanning is the best!)
And then right after that was a trailer for Transylmania, and it was like THE BEST TIMING EVER IN THE WORLD (I am betting they planned that) because like, Twilight is so ridic, and then Transylmania capitalizes on that by starting their trailer off with, "There were three things about which I was certain..." or whatever the fuck that line was. I don't even know if the movie is gonna be good, but IT MADE ME GRIN LIKE MAD.

I cannot wait until New Moon gets to the cheap theater so that I can see it and laugh at it without feeling bad about spending money on a terrible movie (that I actually want to see, lol what is this??!!) just for the lulz.

Aaand, I am kind of feeling the want to rewatch parts of Otogizoushi. Hahaa oh sociopath/good girl set in ancient times Japan and also modern-day Tokyo! (I still have the series on my computer though ha!) Except that I can't rewatch all of it because of things to do, and I do not know which parts I want to watch. Maybe I'll just watch the addendum Mansairaku episode that was super philosophical because he is hot and I am shallow.
